I borrowed an SD card and sure enough, I can mount it: #mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/mc
no problem. But, I have XD camera cards, not SD. Put an XD card in and get: # mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/mc mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device
I tried sda1 thru sda9, same result.
I plug in a Digital Concepts XD reader/writer and it mounts as /dev/sdb1 no problem.
So, it seems the usb system only recognizes it's SD reader section.
Anyone else had any luck with one of these 9-in-1 readers
From the information you provided it's not possible to tell what theproblem really is. It may be, as you said, that only the SD reader is recognized. But it's also possible that with your XD card you need to mount /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1.

Trying to mount /dev/sda gives all kinds of errors.
Looking at /proc/bus/usb/devices reveals vendor=058f and ProdID=9360.
No manufacture name is listed.
Don't know why it is called 9in1, it only has 4 slots for MMC/SD, MS/MS PRO, COMPACT I/II and SMARTMEDIA/XD, which equals 8. Plus device file and usbview state 8 endpoints.
