Okay, I rebooted and am seeing these messages again...

So now I want to try what you are proposing, but I cannot seem to
unload hci_usb:

ERROR: Module hci_usb is in use

It does not say what uses it. If I `rmmod bluetooth`, it says it:

ERROR: Module bluetooth is in use by hci_usb

It does not appear to be used:

  cirrus:~$ lsmod | grep '\(hci\|usb\)'
  hci_usb 14016 1
  bluetooth 49284 1 hci_usb
  ohci1394 35588 0
  ieee1394 111352 2 eth1394,ohci1394
  uhci_hcd 32784 0
  usbcore 118308 4 hci_usb,uhci_hcd

I stopped the bluez utilities and in `ps aux` I cannot identify
a single process that would have anything to do with bluetooth or
USB (other than khubd).

What now? Sorry if I am sounding like a moron, but I want to make
sure I do everything right so that you guys have an easier time
fixing this.

The system is in this state now and I am awaiting further
instruction. Take your time, I do not expect a reboot anytime soon.
Plus, USB currently works fine. Just not the device that has the
interrupt routing problem. But I don't need it these days.
