Okay, I think I can definitely say that the kernel oops only happens when I stop hotplug. Doing so causes the following to be output by the init script (which may or may not be Debian-specific, I do not know): cirrus:~> sudo invoke-rc.d hotplug stop + exit 0 Stopping hotplug subsystem: input input [success] isapnp isapnp [success] net net [success] pci pci [success] usb After the next reboot, I shall try to strace the thing if that's any help. Do you have other things you want me to try? -- martin; (greetings from the heart of the sun.) \____ echo mailto: !#^."<*>"|tr "<*> mailto:" [EMAIL PROTECTED] invalid/expired pgp subkeys? use subkeys.pgp.net as keyserver! spamtraps: [EMAIL PROTECTED] "eine schlechte sache erregt, eine gute vertrgt viel kritik." -- charles tschopp
