It'd still be better to have them both modular, or both built-in. There are way too many configuration variables here ... - BIOS settings - swsusp modes - drivers modular or not in resumed kernel - drivers modular or not in "sacrificial" kernel - which drivers are active - PM support for the HC - ... > After all, you say everything works if ehci-hcd isn't loaded > beforehand.
