as you might have seen on this list (subject: "usb-storage: speed 
inconsistent, disconnect, oops") I have problems with my usb frame too. I get 
a lot of usb resets during the transfer and a disconnect after some time.

Alan was so kind to point me to the patch you used (and some more). But that 
didn't help.

So I was very excited about your findings and put a hub between the drive and 
the usb card. But it didn't work for me. I still get resets and a disconnect 
after some time.

What chipset does your usb-ide converter use? My usb frame uses a chip from 
cypress, but I tried another one from genesys and that got the problems too.
