I have struggled a bit with the USB 100Mb Zip unit and I am still far from
a solution. I have compiled a kernel 2.4.1 with usb-storage, usb-ohci,
usb-uhci (as I was not sure which one of these two would work) and scsi
general support, scsi emulation and scsi disk support, all of them as
modules.
At the start-up, the system often hangs when trying to load the usb-ochi
module and needs re-booting. If it does not hang, then once the boot
process is complete I need to remove with /sbin/rmmod the usb-ochi module
and start `modprobing' the scsi support, scsi disk support, then
usb-storage and usb-ohcii. At this stage my Zip drive works but the system
freezes again if I try to write to the Zip disk.
This week I shall hopefully try compiling the kernel version 2.4.2. There
are two things I need to ask to this list. They may seem a bit naive but
hopefully someone can help:
1) How do I control which modules have to be automatically loaded at
start-up? This is in RH7.0.
2) What is hotplugging?
Thanks in advance
