What do you mean "recognises"? Is it acm class or not? If the device
and interface classes are (vend.) then it is probably a soft modem.
If you need to check, use usbview, or cat /proc/bus/usb/devices.

If you need help to interprete this, send the contents of
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
