Hello,
I'm trying to install my Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem on a RH7.0, but
here is not my problem ...
(I've found many HOWTO's about that.)
Before explaining my problem, I'd like to say that all I'll describe has
been tested with kernels 2.2.16, 2.4.0, 2.4.1 and 2.4.2.
So what's the problem... ?
We you plug a device in an USB port, you should have an entry in
/proc/bus/usb/devices, showing some informations about the device,
even if there's no drivers for it.
My USB port are well configured and detected, I'm using the module
usb-uhci, and "hotplug" is installed.
But when I plug my modem or an USB webcam (IBM), nothing is detected.
I thought it was a kernel module problem, but I've tried to plug an USB
HP cd-writer (8200 series), and the device was perfectly detected !
So my question is: Why some devices are detected and other not !?!
I have a theory about that: the cd-writer has an external power supply
...
I'm looking for any rationnal explanation.. :)
(Please help me, I don't want to keep my Windows 2000 server....)
Thank for your help,
-/Benoit
