I've got a question about my 3Com US Robotics ISDN Pro TA, hopefully someone
here can answer it and point me to what I need to fix. BTW, the 3Com ISDN
Pro TA acts like a regular external modem as far as the system is concerned,
fully AT cmd compatible and all that.

Ok, I'm using a Epox 7KXA+ MB (VIA KX133 Chipset) W/ Athlon 750. It's a new
MB and processor I just bought (time to retire the ol' Pentium Pro:). I've
been using my 3Com TA for about a year on my old board using the serial
connection (didn't have USB on my old system and the TA supports USB and
Serial) with no issues (except being choked by my serial througput). I set
up my new system and originally had it going with the TA using a serial cable
but then I figured, what the hell, I'll give USB a shot. Using a mid-march
burn of Slackware-current w/ kernel 2.2.19 I got all the USB stuff working no
problem. My connection is waaay faster--only problem is it drops a lot at
about 20 second intervals for no apparent reason. I'll be downloading
something and packets will simply stop. Running Ethereal shows nothing going
across the ppp interface. I am not able to ping anything. This will last
about 3-5 seconds then packets will start flowing again. During this period
of dead air pppd remains up, it does not die at all, and there are zero error
messages in any log files. I did not experience this using the same TA w/
the serial connection. Anybody have any ideas? Did I miss something in the
kernel config? This problem occurs whether I dial w/ good ol' ppp-go or Kppp
(that was a bitch, getting Kppp to work with a USB Modem).
Thanks in advance for any help,
Eric B.

Q: Is Linux only good because it is free?
A: No, but Windows would still suck if it was.
The side of the box said "Requires Windows 95 or better". I figured
this means it must run in Linux.
