This is not just a printer problem. I have multiple USB scanners (up to three) connected to my machine. Depending on the order in which I power them on they are assigned /dev/usb/scanner[012]. I have to admit that the print queue problem is much worse than what Sane does with these, but I would still like to assign one physical device to a specific device file. Would the hot-plugging support be the right place to look for a solution?
