Hi again
Just an update. I've backtracked to 2.4.4 and stepped through the USB
process with the following results:
1. Kernel started OK
2. USB modules loaded OK with no devices attached
3. connected printer (Epson 740) No problem
4. connected camera (cpia - creative webcam II) no problem
5. connected camera (ov511 - robocam) no problem
6. start camera software (xawtv/webcam modified) ov511 ok cpia ok
7 then total lock-up -- no error messages just freezes
Oh well. Back to the drawing board.
