I am having difficulty with my 20GB LaCie usb harddrive with kernel 2.4.2 on 
a Redhat 7.1 system.  This drive holds my mp3 collection on a fat32 
partition.  It works fine under windoze.  It works with Linux for a short 
time: I can mount the filesystem, traverse it, and play a few mp3s.  But 
after playing 5 or so mp3s, my kernel will panic and my lacie's drive light 
will stay solid green.

I get different behaviour with kernel 2.4.3.  The kernel will not panic, but 
the userspace process (like xmms or mpg123) will freeze permanently.
