I have noticed that I must plug in my LaCie 20gb harddrive in a certain way for it to be recognized by Linux. 1. turned on and plugged in prior to OS load - WORKS 2. turned off and plugged in prior to OS load, then turned on after OS load - DOESN'T WORK 3. turned on and unplugged prior to booting, plug in after OS load - WORKS So it seems I must have the drive powered on prior to plugging in the usb cable or it won't be recognized. It seems as if my drive needs some time to initialize itself. All 3 of the above cases work in windoze. Is this a known problem? Here is my relevant debugging info when the drive is not recognized in case 2: Linux version 2.4.2-2 (root@hemispheres) (gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-81)) #7 Sat May 26 14:15:51 CDT 2001 May 2 22:56:11 hemispheres kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 2 May 2 22:56:11 hemispheres kernel: usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=2 (error=-110) May 2 22:56:11 hemispheres kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 3 May 2 22:56:14 hemispheres kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout May 2 22:56:14 hemispheres kernel: usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=3 (error=-110) hemispheres% cat /proc/bus/usb/devices T: Bus=01 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#= 1 Spd=12 MxCh= 2 B: Alloc= 0/900 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0 D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 0.00 S: Product=USB UHCI-alt Root Hub S: SerialNumber=ff80 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=40 MxPwr= 0mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.)
