I have an HP G55xi box and want to get at least the printer subsystem of
it running under Linux RedHat 7.1 (Kernel 2.4.2-2), which has pretty
decent USB support built-in. I am able to run some other USB devices OK
(e.g. a Zip drive), so I know thatthe basic Linux USB subsystem is
working OK. I followed the instructions on the linux-usb.org web site
in setting up a device file for /dev/usb/lp0, and used the Gnome Print
Tool to create a printcap entry for the machine. There is a driver for
the OfficeJet G55 series included with Linux, so it appears that I
should have all the pieces.
Well, the queue exists, and when I print to it, a queue entry appears,
but after about 10 seconds, the queue entry disappears, and nothing ever
prints. I suspect there is some module that needs to be loaded, or
something simple like that, since things seems to be generally working.
I would appreciate any pointers from someone who has gotten a G55xi or
similar HP inkjet to work with this kind of setup.
Thanks
Justin Harlow
