No idea what's up.  I don't use ODS (just jPhoto lately :).

All I can suggest is to touch bases with the ODS folk, or
maybe try gphoto2.  USB itself should download pictures
that size in under a second each, and that's the rate I'm
used to seeing with other cameras ... :)
