There are instructions for adding support for certain modems (those that
comply with the Communication Device Class Abstract Control Model) at
http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/book1.html
Note: Not all modems will work (they are USB "winmodems"). The only modem I
know in Australia that definately complies with the spec is the Netcom USB
Roadster, although there may be others.
