o Everyone else:  My completely non-expert advice is stay away from
  the stock kernels.  2.4.9 and 2.4.10-pre12 don't even compile
  correctly, and when hand-edited to compile (2.4.9 at least; I gave
  up on 2.4.10-pre12 after one round of fixes) don't work (with my
  USB camera).  Since back in 2.4.6, I've had good luck with the
  "-acXX" kernels.

o Now ... on to Video4Linux and webcams.
