I'm running Mandrake 8.1, but the problem I'm having was also shared by
Mandrake 8.0, SuSE 7.1, and versions of RedHat: I want to use a KVM
switch to alternate my monitor/USB keyboard/USB mouse among three
machines (one running Suse 7.1, one running Mandrake 8.1, one running
MacOS X 10.1 (Darwin)). The problem is that both SuSE and Mandrake lose
contact with the mouse when I switch away; the keyboard works when I
switch back, but the mouse is frozen. MacOS X doesn't have this problem
(the mouse is unresponsive for 2-3 seconds, then it resumes working).

The manufacturer of the switch, Miniview, warns that "some" operating
systems will require the mouse driver to be unloaded before switching.
Yeah, Jack, transparent operation all right :-(

HOW can I get this to work? If all else fails I can keep a terminal app
open, as long as I can execute a utility to reset the USB connection.
How can I do that? I can't find where in the rc scripts the mouse
interface is activated, let alone how to restart it.

Best of all, how can I keep the driver from going catatonic when the
mouse isn't connected to the machine?

As you can tell, I'm a newbie to USB drivers. I have no idea where this
stuff is done.
