Hi All I've been using an Epson Stylus Photo 780 printer on usb for about two weeks now, without any hint of a failure. I last used it on Thursday 11 October, and it worked fine. The next morning after booting up, I noticed a quick flash of a message just prior to the log on screen that said, "could not activate usb/lp0 does not exist. I am at a loss of what brought this on. The /var/log/messages showed :
kernel: printer.c: usb/lp0: device node registration failed I guess at this point, I'm not quite clear on the meaning of this message, that is, where do I look to see why it failed ? when I cat /proc/bus/usb/devices, the interface descriptor info shows Driver=(none). when I cat /proc/bus/usb/drivers, I show three, usbdevfs hub usb-storage Can someone please point me in the direction to look next ? My O/S is RedHat 7.1 with 2.4.6 kernel Entire topology consist of the Printer attached to a Hub built into the base of my Viewsonic Monitor, which is attached to the Root Hub.
