I have found that my HP8200 usb cd-writer works well, if I stay away from the GUI oriented burners. If I just give cdrecord pre-made iso images it doesn't hang. I recently was able to burn the latest Mandrake 3 cd set with out any problems (thats over 2gig of data). I am using the usb-uhci module.
