You might want to try using 2.4.17 instead. Kernel 2.5.1 is in the development series, and ... well ... is risky, at best. I'm not going to be much help to you, as I don't have a USB capable camera, but I can point you at more documentation. Browse on over to http://www.linux-usb.org/, there's a faq and a guide which might help track down the missing pieces of information you require.
