Is there any chance to get an external USB hard disk running with kernel
2.2.16?

device:
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=40 MxPwr= 0mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=255ms
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=04ce ProdID=0002 Rev= 2.60
S: Manufacturer=USB to IDE
S: Product=USB to IDE

/var/log/messages:
Dec 30 01:05:17 ynis kernel: usb.c: USB new device connect, assigned
device number 2 Dec 30 01:05:17 ynis kernel: WARNING: USB Mass Storage
data integrity not assured Dec 30 01:05:17 ynis kernel: USB Mass Storage
device found at 2

But no /dev/sdc* is avaiable. I read that usb-storage has problems with
kernel 2.2. Is upgrading to 2.4 the only chance?

Thanks
        Michael
