I also did a recompile (for debug reasons: I have a cheap Praktica 2.1 Megapixel digital camera, that claims to be usb-storage compliant but fails to work with Linux) - both the precompiled and the selfcompiled kernel work just fine with the Sandisk ImageMate II.
