it is possible i know for sure, as SimpleTech.com manufactures "Simple USB" (containing OEM 2.5" HDD's) that runs off the power from USB, **BUT** the big-catch... they say you **might** need to use their power cable that connects the PS2 port of your computer to draw power of the external USB HDD... how nifty... what if i need a PS2 mouse to go there??
BTW, anybody know for sure how to make such a PS2 to DC power cable ?? complete with connector type, cable type and pinouts!!! thanks a lot to all group members, bdutta. --- > >It's definitely possible (dont ask me how though) because I do have one - >albeit not that particular model or manufacturer - that i use with my >windows laptop as a backup device (running the old HD from that laptop). >I've never had any problems with it, not tried to get it to work under >linux though... > > - Ross > > >On Tue, 8 Jan 2002, Bjrn Stenberg wrote: > > > Dmitri wrote: > > > > > I would *very much* doubt that the HDD can be fed with USB power.
