The current README there says:
... there's now a patch circulating for recent 2.4 kernels;
avoid using this source directory.
About 10 seconds after searching the list archive I found this URL:

In the next couple days I plan to post an update to address the
root hub issue noted in this post, as well as fix some bulk queuing
issues. Or, those are also in the same list archives.
