Problem: usb-ohci seems broken on AMD-765 Viper usb-ohci
Summary: Although the usb-ohci driver loads successfully, attempting to use
my usb device under any system load causes the generation of spurious calls
to usb_hub_port_connect_change from usb_hub_events.
Detailed: I am using an ov511 webcam, which worked perfectly on my old
system, and still works fine with an usb-uhci pci card I temporarily
installed for testing. However, the onboard usb-ohci [USB Controller:
Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] AMD-765 [Viper] USB (rev 7)] that is on my
Tyan Tiger-MP motherboard [which is a SMP board, but currently only has 1
cpu on it, a 1600Mhz K7, kernel compiled for uniprocessor] will work for
only brief intervals, before a spurious false disconnection causes the
device to be remapped to a different minor number. If the system load is
minimal, it will work fine for sometimes upwards of a minute
[i.e. displaying video in xawtv], but if there is any notable CPU
utilization, the problem will immediately arise within a few seconds at
most.
System log below demonstrates the problem. I would greatly appreciate any
suggestions you might have as to the cause of this. Is it possible that I
recieved a faulty motherboard, or is this a bug in the driver?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
David
