After a couple of months of wrestling with my computer and all it's stability issues it's been suffering lately I finaly have most of them ironed out. One of the few remaining ones is stability problems with CDCEther and my Motorola SB4100 Cable modem.
>From what I can tell, every now and then eth1 (the modem) will disapear from ifconfig and when I do a route it hangs (presumably because it seems to think that eth1 is still there somewhere but cannot find it). This happens about once every 4 days. The simple fix is running ifdown eth1 (just to clear out any remaining settings that are hung), remove the module, reinsert CDCEther then ifup eth1. I have also noticed that on at least once, data sent to the modem from upstream (presumably some kind of error sent by Comcast) it has kernel panic'd. I have only noticed this on one occasion, however it is possible that it has happened some other times that I have not noticed. now I know the usual question, I currently have 2.4.17, and if I am not mistaken I did not see any CDCEther updates in 2.4.18.
