Do you play CD in your normal CD drive and you want to listen it on this audio device? Or you connect to this minidisc recorder wth this device and you want to play from it via normal speakers ? Or both? Do you have other audio devices on the system? do they work? My first guess is that the device is not your default one so applications which use default one do not use it. If so - search the last month/two months archives - I wrote a short info how to make yoru device default: in short: make /dev/dsp etc. links while /dev/dsp0 dsp1 sp2 etc. the real devices.
