o This is related to the "Mass storage driver and changing RAM card
  sizes..." thread.

o I just got a SCM Microsystems "Dazzle* Universal 6 in 1 Reader".
It's a USB flash memory device with two slots, one for Compact
Flash, and one that takes either SmartMedia, Memory Stick, or SD
card. The package claims "Driver installation is not required for
Windows Me and WIndows XP", and is reported to work at
  http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=1175

o When first plugged in, it's detected by name, and the two slots are
assigned to /dev/sdc and /dev/sdd (because I had already connected
and disconnected two other USB storage class devices). Logs have
lots of complanits about "READ CAPACITY failed"

o When a memory card is inserted in either slot, nothing happens (no
log entries, no hotplug events). To get the system to see the card,
  I have to, counter-intuitively, do `eject /dev/sdc` (or sdd).

o I can then manually mount, read/write access, and umount the card.
This is not as nice as when hotplug creates an appropriate temporary
entry with the "user" option in /etc/fstab.

o Removing the card also shows no log or hotplug activity. Doing
`eject` after the card has been removed has no effect. Inserting
the same (or different) card in the same slot, or a card in the
other slot, again requires an `eject` before access.

o This is all workable, but is there a Better Way (tm) ?

o One last thing: The packaging has a sticker that says "USB 2.0
Device", but there is no USB Hi Speed logo. Is there any way to
tell from logs (I don't have a 2.0 interface) if it is really 2.0
  capable?
