Really?  Why do you say that?  I mean, I agree it should, but does it
really?  :)

I tried using sync on vfat probably around 2.4.7, and it appeared that
the vfat filesystem driver totally ignored that directive.

If a reliable source says there's a chance it'll work, I'll try it
again.  I'm just a little reluctant to destroy my vfat partitions if it
doesn't...
