I just don't have the time or patience to do what SuSE should have done.  
I have RH 8.0 in the mail and will run the SuSE 8.1 update one of these days.  
Perhaps one of them has been properly configured with all of the necessary 
supports.

This wouldn't be so frustrating except that every Linux distro seems to be 
fraught with common sense things forgotten or incompletely tested and I've
wasted months of productivity wading through mans and discussion lists 
trying to resolve them, from Debian to Stormix to Progeny to Peanut to 
Mandrake to SuSE and others ... (rant off).

Meanwhile I guess I will live with a hardware kludge and leave the ps/2 mouse 
connected and stashed out of the way.  It is the 7 second solution.   ;-)
