And the "after disconnect/reconnect" looked like you should have tried power cycling the device; some get into wierd states. - Dave p.s. Yes, unfortunately the controller is the VT-6202 on a PCI card. Is there a problem in the silicon or is there a chance that this controller will eventually work? It seems like it is very close, if it didn't freeze my system it would be ideal for me. The patch did seem to help the issue, I haven't had it fail a fsck since I applied the patch. Yet after several weeks of testing, I can definately say that there is a problem. I have verbose logging enabled, and under 2.4 there is absolutley no indication that anything went wrong, the read simply stops and the following is appended to the kernel log

Any further attempt to access the disk simply hangs and does not respond to signals. Is there anything I can do to diagnose the problem or am I just SOL with this controller?
