Hello,

First of all here are some details.

OS:Gentoo Linux 1.4
Kernel:Vanilla 2.4.20
Hardware: Dell Dimension 8250
Motherboard: Intel 850E
Mouse: Dell branded Logitech manufactured 3 buttons including scrollwheel

I have a Dell branded logitech 3 button mouse plugged into a USB2 port.
However, this mouse only responds with a protocol of ps/2 and device
/dev/psaux in XF86Config and not with imps/2 and /dev/input/mice or any
other setting. Now although the mouse works it occassionally freezes and
at other times exhibits strange movement.

Every relevant kernel option with the exception of usb1 support (uhci +
uhci-je alternate) is turned on. The reason usb1 support is turned off is
that it stops the ps2 keyboard from working when usb controller is turned
on in the bios. And the problem of course if that if you remove usb1
support in kernel and turn on usb controller in bios the mouse does not
respond to usb protocol. Also, current kernels do not seem to support the
I850E chipset.

It's a difficult issue and is frustating me greatly. Any help you can
offer would be most appreciated and if you require any further information
kindly ask.

Finally, are all the usb ports on the dimension 8250 of version 2 or are
there some version 1 ports too?

Many thanks.
Dhruba Bandopadhyay.
