I've had a lot of trouble with the mass storage driver as delivered with Red Hat 7.2. It sorta worked when connecting my digital camera but often it would get confused and require a reboot. I tried to upgrade to the 2.4.20 kernel but that's hardly any better.
I'm also trying out an external USB 2.0 hard drive which gets recognized ok at USB 1.1 speeds (12Mbit). I don't have USB 2.0 on this machine but the docs with the device say it should be backwards compatible with USB 1.0 and 1.1. I don't need the highest speed anyway yet.
USB 2.0 Storage Adaptor Manufacturer: DMI Serial Number: 0B020142052ACC20 Speed: 12Mb/s (full) USB Version: 2.00 Device Class: 00(>ifc ) Device Subclass: 00 Device Protocol: 00 Maximum Default Endpoint Size: 64 Number of Configurations: 1 Vendor Id: 0c0b Product Id: b001 Revision Number: 11.10
But when I was trying to find the right SCSI device to mount the drive the session locked up and cannot get killed. I found the device listed as /proc/scsi/usb-storage-0/2 with the following contents:
Host scsi2: usb-storage
Vendor: DMI
Product: USB 2.0 Storage Adaptor
Serial Number: 0B020142052ACC20
Protocol: Transparent SCSI
Transport: Bulk
GUID: 0c0bb0010b020142052acc20
Attached: YesHow do I find which device to use?
And finally, I've been reading that going to the latest 2.5 kernel is probably the way to go. Has anyone been able to compile 2.5.63 on a Red Hat 7.2 system?
If so, please E-mail me off-line.
Thanks.
