I just purchased a Daisy Multimedia "Music Pen" MP3 player. It needs no special driver and just shows up as a removable drive with Windows 2000 onwards. You just drag & drop the MP3s in Windows Explorer. So I got this product thinking that it was like a generic memory stick and it would just work with Linux (Mandrake 9.1).
However, it simply doesn't register when plugged in. There is no trace of it in /proc/bus/usb/devices. On the same machine it works in Windows. I have other USB devices proven to work under Linux on the same machine including an ADSL modem, Webcam and another memory stick. I have also tried it on another Linux machine, also running MDK 9.1, at work with the same result. I tried "modprobe usb-storage" before plugging the device in but it makes no difference. All the debug info I've read on getting USB devices to work seems to point to loading /proc/bus/usb/devices. But if there is nothing in there where do I start??? The Pen normally displays "USB" and all the buttons lock-out as soon as it is detected in Windows. Under Linux it just powers up and acts like it would if it were not connected i.e. all the buttons still work except you can't switch it off. Any help appreciated, Thanks, SimonB --------------------------------------------- This email was sent using http://mail.uk2.net UK2.NET - UK's Biggest Host! - http://uk2.net ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Etnus, makers of TotalView, The best thread debugger on the planet.
