thnx for your hints; gave me the opportunity to take a long look at
windows xp; indeed, with the mp3-utilities software that came with the
device a whole bunch of other files and dlls seemes to have been
installed; i found a new driver class usb ('stmp player recovery
device') an an stmp3410 driver;
the device is a pilot version made by tai guan enterprises;
this all sounds as if the device is not so very much a standard device
as it should and sound even on the tai guan enterprise-homepage ...
few chances to run it under linux ?
