Adam, could you please send me the h/ware specs on your OmniBook? Some of them were said to be similar to the Pavilion 5400 series, and the error is *frightfully* similar to what I'm getting with a couple of pencam-type cameras. It may be something with the mobo, and the way it employs usb.

/proc/interupts shows usb-uhci on IRQ 5, with the number of interrupts
increasing regularly.
Other USB devices work fine for the most part.
The Linux USB FAQ[3] suggests that this is a problem with the BIOS, or with Linux communicating with the BIOS. I tried the solutions recommended there: switching off ACPI, disabling APIC (which apparently is disabled anyway[4]), looking at BIOS settings (there doesn't appear to be one that is relevant). I also tried removing maestro3, the sound module, which shares an interrupt with USB, but that didn't effect anything either.
I've searched through this list archive, and this sort of problem pops up regularly, but I'm not quite sure how to troubleshoot further.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
