hello,
i've got a pontis sp600 mp3player, which can be mounted via
usb-storage. unluckily it sometimes crashes my computer, this has
happened with 2.4.19 and 2.4.20, but at that time it wasn't really
supportet in the vanilla sources. however, someone added the player to
drivers/usb/storage/unusual_devs.h in 2.4.21, so i feel free to ask
for help now ;-)

i also found two messages about problems with the same device in the
archive (http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=4612529
and http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=4507906),
but no way to solve the problem.

if i attach the player to usb, syslog reports:
Jun 15 17:06:12 [kernel] Manufacturer: PONTIS Electronic
Jun 15 17:06:12 [kernel] Product: SP600 - USB Audio Player

(256 MB)
Jun 15 17:06:12 [kernel] sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
Jun 15 17:06:12 [kernel]

on mounting/unmounting this message is shown in syslog:
Jun 15 17:23:57 [kernel] Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc
in the drive.

writing/reading data usually works, but sometimes my computer just
locks up with blinking leds on the keyboard.
i have enabled "USB Mass Storage verbose debug", but there seems not
much information available after the crash.

another funny thing i've noticed: whenever i copy data onto the
mp3player, my system load rises to 3, though the cpu is at 1% or so.

i'm very interested in tracking this down, if you tell me what
information is important to you to solve the problem (verbose output,
i could try using the sysrq key, whatever else could be useful), i
will try to provide it.

regards,
         wernfried
