Hi All:

I have a couple of unresolved USB problems from the past[1], [2], but
here's a new one!

I just purchased the brand new Neuros Audio Player[3]. For those who
don't know, Neuros has made a public commitment to supporting GNU/Linux
and Open Source development[4], and have hired the former CEO of the Xiph
Foundation.

The Neuros Player appears as a USB storage device, similar to a
disk-on-key (I do have a USB disk-on-key that works perfectly). The
primary problem is that my entire system eventually hangs when the device
is mounted. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not I'm engaging in any
activity at the time, the system just locks up entirely.

I don't even get "SOS" flashing lights, and the power switch is disabled,
so I need to put a pin in the "force shutdown" hole.

Immediately prior to hanging, I see the following in syslog:

SCSI error: host 1 id 0 lun 0 return code = 8000002
^ISense class 7, sense error 0, extended sense 0

Sometimes, the mount process hangs while trying to mount the device. In
this case, the system remains stable, but I can't kill the mount process.
Even if I kill the parent process, the mount process stays there. In
fact, when I reboot, it gets stuck shutting down, and again I have to do
a hard reset.

I've also noticed that sometimes the usb-storage module gets stuck, lsmod
says it's "initializing".

I've posted a more complete excerpt from my syslog[5].

I've also posted the output from lspci[6].

Finally, FWIW, I've posted my kernel config[7]. This behavior occurs at
least with kernels 2.4.20 and 2.4.21.

I've also emailed the folks at Neuros about this, but I thought I would
try this forum too, since a usb storage device should not be able to hang
a system like this! I've read through the archives of this list and the
FAQ, and it appears that other people have similar problems, but I was
unable to find any good solutions.

Thanks for any advice!
