I think your diagnosis is right and it's not a scanner.o problem. I've
read similar reports especially with UHCI controllers.

My standard advice is to try to disable the use of an APIC if that's
enabled in your kernel. You could also try the "uhci" module instead
of "usb-uhci". Or try a 2.6.* kernel :-)

Probably yes, but I don't know it :-) Well, maybe it would conflict
with hot-plugging?
