It's in the main kernel tree.  Look at the latest releases from
kernel.org.  It will probably help you out a lot if you are using the
same protocol.

The visor driver?  I don't think it will talk the same way your device
needs, right?

Yes, the generic driver is for those devices that is just a dumb
conduit.  A lot of people use it for hardware development and other odd
little projects.

There was also an article written in the past few months in Linux
Journal about how the usb-serial driver layer works.  You might want to
look at that.
