I have the same exact SanDisk 'Cruzer Mini' device (Model SDCZ2-256) and have had very good luck with it in Slackware Linux (8.1 and 9.0). The normal 'usb-storage' module works fine and I can successfully mount the device as '/dev/sda1'. I have even re-partitioned this device (for simultaneous FAT16 and Linux ext2 partitions) with good luck. However, when I boot from a Knoppix CD (version 3.2, for x86 hardware), the KDE desktop startup hangs my machine _hard_ about mid-way through if the SanDisk 'Cruzer Mini' drive is installed when booting. If I leave the Cruzer Mini out, Knoppix boots normally and a 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices' (after installing the Cruzer Mini, of course) properly shows the device, with the 'usb-storage' module properly registered to it. However, I get other inexplicable effects like a process lockup (not the whole machine, just the process) if I try to 'fdisk -l /dev/sda'. If I instead mount one of the partitions first ('mount /dev/sda1 /cruzer'), that same 'fdisk' command succeeds (!). Bizarre.... Either way, as long as the Cruzer Mini is inserted _after_ booting Knoppix, I can successfully mount its partitions. Assuming your machine is locking up when you have the Cruzer Mini installed prior to boot, I'd suggest leaving it out until the machine boots. In short, I think the Cruzer Mini is a workable device, but there seem to be a few glitches, depending upon factors that I have not pinned down (operating system??? USB protocol/chipset??? others???). FWIW, I have had somewhat better luck with my 128MB Apacer 'HandyDrive' USB flash drive (using USB 1.1, not the newer ones which use USB 2.x) although I cannot explain exactly why. I intend to eventually try a bunch more tests on several machines, using Slackware and Knoppix, using both the Apacer HandyDrive and the SanDisk Cruzer Mini. HTH....
