I recently had trouble setting up a similar device (Y-E Data 7-in-1 Media
Reader) to work with my RH 7.3 system. To get it to work, I had to
upgrade to release 2.4.20-20.7 of the kernel. Until I did so, only the
first card slot was detected. Once I did that, I added these statements
to /etc/rc.d/rc.local to prod Linux to detect all of the card readers:

echo >/proc/scsi/scsi "scsi add-single-device 0 0 0 1"
echo >/proc/scsi/scsi "scsi add-single-device 0 0 0 2"
echo >/proc/scsi/scsi "scsi add-single-device 0 0 0 3"

Check the kernel docs for the significance of the numbers. I recall that
the first number is the number of the SCSI interface, so I used '0' for
'scsi0'.

Having done all this, Linux created emulated SCSI disk drives for each of
the card readers. To figure out which /dev/sd?1 device went with each
media slot, I stuck a media card in each slot, then issued 'fdisk -l' as
root.

Please check the archives for this mailing list for more details regarding
my problem and its solution.
