I have a little MP3 player that has a USB interface. This device should be
working under Linux; there's an active community of users of it with Linux,
including a separate application and kernel module for supporting special
features and patches to the rio500 kernel module to connect it as a
USB-storage device.

I can never get that far, because when I connect the device to either my
wife's laptop running a 2.4 kernel or my laptop running a 2.6-t8 kernel, I
get a string of "device not accepting ID" errors.

What is this? A bad cable? A bad hardware chip on the device? A change in
the firmware of the device that breaks compatability? Where should I start
trying to fix this?

Thanks!
