Hello,

I just upgraded my IBM Thinkpad T40p from 2.4.23 to 2.6.1rc1. All seems
well, except for USB, which is excruciatingly slow after the upgrade.

I am using my Sony Clie NX-70V as my USB device. It can operate in two
modes: as a Palm device (using the standard pilot-link package and the
Visor serial driver in the kernel) and a standard mass storage device,
which lets the PC mount its memory stick. I have used it in both modes
for some time.

Since the upgrade to 2.6.1rc1, I first tried the mass storage mode. I
observed that performance was bad -- probably 5 times slower than with
2.4.x. Moreover, pilot-link coredumped on my once, and I had to turn
off the Palm to get it out of confusion. When next I tried to use USB,
my system froze hard -- no messages, and even magic sysrq could not
recover it.

Performance with pilot-link is even worse, but seems to be randomly so.
Sometimes, it performs almost normally; other times, it is a terribly
slow performer indeed, taking many minutes to complete what should be
done in about 10 seconds normally.

I have not much to report as far as diagnostics go; but dmesg did note
this:

hub 2-0:1.0: new USB device on port 2, assigned address 10
usb 2-2: control timeout on ep0in
usb 2-2: palm_os_4_probe - error -110 getting connection info
usbserial 2-2:1.0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter detected
usb 2-2: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB0
(or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
usb 2-2: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB1
(or usb/tts/1 for devfs)

lspci notes this for my system's USB controller:

00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #1) (rev 01)
00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #2) (rev 01)
00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #3) (rev 01)
00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB2 (rev 01)

I have these modules loaded:

$ cat /proc/modules  | egrep -i 'usb|hci'
usb_storage 44480 0 - Live 0xe09d0000
usbserial 29552 3 visor, Live 0xe0997000
scsi_mod 108216 4 ide_scsi,usb_storage,sr_mod,sg, Live 0xe09a5000
usbmouse 5760 0 - Live 0xe0902000
usbkbd 7424 0 - Live 0xe08ff000

usbcore 105052 9
hid,usb_storage,visor,usbserial,usbmouse,usbkbd,uhci_hcd, Live

Thanks for any help.
