To pursue the discussion on "APIC" and USB here is some more information :
- my file /proc/interrupt" is empty but it is probably due to my "nopic" lilo
option !
- here are some of my BIOS USB related options :
"APIC Mode" Enabled
OnChip USB Enabled
USB Keyboard Support Disabled
USB Mouse Support Disabled
Assign IRQ for USB Disabled
Questions :
- is the BIOS APIC the same as the Linux "apic" or is the latter one replacing
the BIOS one ?
To help in bringing an answer to this question I tried the following :
1)
Test conditions :
BIOS :
Assign IRQ for USB Enabled
LILO :
with no "noapic" append option removed !
Results : my USB printer is not seen !
2)
Test conditions :
BIOS :
"APIC Mode" Disabled
Assign IRQ for USB Enabled
LILO :
with no "noapic" append option removed !
Results : my USB printer is seen and I have the following in my
"/proc/intrrupts file" :
CPU0
0: 167046 XT-PIC timer
1: 56 XT-PIC i8042
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
5: 207 XT-PIC uhci_hcd, uhci_hcd
8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
9: 125 XT-PIC EMU10K1
10: 91 XT-PIC eth0
11: 591 XT-PIC dc395x
12: 7722 XT-PIC i8042
14: 9619 XT-PIC ide0
15: 1080 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0
LOC: 166982
ERR: 217
MIS: 0
So apparently the BIOS "APIC" and the Linux "APIC" have some problemes to
coexist with kernel-2.6.x
Hopefully all this may bring some help to people experimenting some problems
with USB and kernel-2.6.x
Regards.
