Some aliases are and some aren't. For example, sound-slot-0 and eth0 are aliases that are hard-coded into the kernel. I thought there might be a similar alias for usb. If Redhat does it the way you mention, then I suspect not.
For kernel 2.4 and Debian, I used the alias usb-interface. Does anyone know if this was distro specific or kernel specific? Please cc me in your reply.
