One other thing you can try is to set max_sectors to 128. You can find
the max_sectors file somewhere in the /sys directory tree, under the entry
for your drive. As root, just type
echo 128 >/sys/.../max_sectors
(you'll have to fill in the path yourself). I don't know if this will
help, but it might. You could even try lower values, any positive
multiple of 8.
