In some circles, sometimes referred to as "Super Floppy Format" I believe.
There is no MBR/partition table in block 0 as you would usually find on a
hard disk.  Instead, the whole device is assumed to be one partition, so
block 0 is the first block of the partition.  This is just like a floppy
diskette, where block 0 would contain a BPB that describes the format of the
FAT file system on the device.  This "Super Floppy Format" is often seen on
MO media too.
