Hi Mark,

I've been successfully using the Belkin F5U109 (with DB-9 connector, sold as a
PDA adapter) with the 'mct_u232' module for quite a while now. In fact, I was
about to recommend that you try that module on your F5U409, but you beat me
to it because I'm a bit behind on reading email! :^)

Can you please confirm your adapter model number? I cannot find any reference
to adapter model F5U409 on the Belkin site, but there are several references
to 'F5U409' in a Google search, so I know it must have existed at some point.

What does this adapter look like? It sounds like it has a DB-9 connector like
the F5U109 (http://catalog.belkin.com/
IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Product_Id=91042) but I'm curious what
the differences are.

Based on your report of success with the 'mct_u232' module, I'd like to update
a few files for the Linux distributions related to your F5U409 Belkin
adapter.

Therefore, could you please report the USB Vendor ID and Product ID ('cat /
proc/bus/usb/devices') for this device?

With this information, assuming the F5U409 has a different Product ID than my
F5U109, I'll submit a patch to update the 'usb.ids' file and another patch to
add your device to the list of USB Vendor/Product IDs in the 'mct_u232'
module itself.

Furthermore, I plan to eventually submit a patch to add both of our adapters
to the 'Configure.help' file under the 'CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_MCT_U232' section,
as a reminder to people configuring their kernel of just what adapters are
supported.

There's a bigger issue that concerns me as well, however. The F5U109 adapter
and the Sitecom U232-P25 adapter, both of which use the 'mct_u232' module,
use a coded baud rate instead of the conventional 'baud rate divisor'. In
practical terms, this means that your F5U409 (again, assuming it uses a
different Product ID than my F5U109) will (probably) _not_ change baud rate
successfully using the 'mct_u232' driver. Can you confirm or deny this? If
you can confirm, I'd like to further modify the 'mct_u232' module to properly
accommodate your adapter with regard to baud rate changes.

P.S. I'm not the official maintainer of the 'mct_u232' driver, but I made a
recent patch to properly support writes to certain RS-232 devices via the
F5U109, so I think I'd be able to fix things for your adapter, if needed.
Mostly, I'd just like to be sure that everything is configured properly for
future users too.

Any information you can provide is much appreciated.
